1st years elected to Student Council

This week saw the election of four 1st Year students to the Student Council. Evan Fitzpatrick Joseph Craig, Aine Daly and Lisa Hayes were warmly welcomed to the established council.

Our student council consists of representatives from every year in our school- from first year to sixth year. This diversity in age, ensures good representation from all students. The council meets bi-weekly and we provide a line of communication between students, management staff and parents, representing the views of the student body on matters of concern to them. Our council liaison teacher Ms Fitzgerald is a crucial part of the running of the student council and helps us establish our link with teachers and management.

The student council works in partnership with the Board of Management, staff and parents for the benefit of the whole school community. We seek to build a relationship based on mutual respect with all in the school and support the staff, management and parents in their efforts to create and maintain an environment conductive to educational and personal development.

We fundraise regularly as we feel that it is important that we give back to the people in our community, yet we are firm believers that fundraising does not have to be boring. We have organised events from christmas concerts to quizzes in order to raise much needed funds for local and national charities. In this way not only is the money going to a fantastic cause, but it is also benefitting the morale of the whole school community.

We mainly advocate for our fellow students- ensuring that their voices are heard loud and clear.

One of our proudest achievements was setting up a school canteen. We have worked with the Board of Management and staff to change our school from one with no designated communal eating area to a canteen facility with hot meals served every day.

As students ourselves, we deal with real student concerns every day and we work closely with our principal, Mr Kerrisk to address these issues. The power of the students’ voice makes our school a better place.
