Incoming TY Students - Letter

Dear Parent/Guardian & TY Students

We hope you are well and enjoying the Summer.

Planning is well underway for TY programme 20/21. Due to the current pandemic, a reimagining of Transition Year may be necessary, however, we will still endeavour to keep the spirit of the programme as creative and innovative as possible.

At this stage, there are two items we would like to draw your attention to.

Firstly, TY students will have an opportunity to train and qualify as a Beach Lifeguard. There will be an interview for this and a pool test in which applicants will have to swim 400m in under 8 minutes. It is recommended, but not essential, that applicants will have passed Rescue 2 and Basic Lifesaving 3. The training will be provided at a reduced cost and on passing the exam, students will be required to apply for Beach Lifeguard positions in the locality for summer 2021.

If this is something your son/daughter would be interested in there is still plenty of time to prepare. More details will be available in September.

Secondly, Work Experience, which is an integral part of Transition Year, will take place on one day a week (Friday). It is hoped that our students will identify a number of types of work they would be interested in experiencing. This may be volunteering in the community, a placement with an employer or work shadowing. You might want to be looking for something suitable now as opportunities take time to source.

All activities will be dependent on following government guidelines. We will be in contact later re other matters, when we get more clarity from the Department of Education.

If you have any questions re the above, Please feel free to contact me:

In the meantime, we wish you and your family a safe and pleasant summer

Kind Regards

Bernie Power
