Mount Saint Michael is a co-educational voluntary secondary school located on a beautiful hilltop overlooking Rosscarbery Bay in scenic West Cork. We are proud to be under the trusteeship of CEIST (Catholic Education – An Irish Schools Trust). Our school has a long and rich history, having been founded in 1894 by the Mercy Order and the Mercy values continue to guide us in our work every day.
Inspired by the vision of Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Mercy Order, our school believes in preparing students for life, while also nurturing their spirit — as she said, “to fit the students for earth without unfitting them for Heaven.” That spirit and ethos is still very much alive in Mount Saint Michael today.
We aim for high academic standards and are equally committed to offering a wide variety of extra-curricular activities so that all our students can thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Our school is strongly connected to the local community, and our Christian values influence everything we do – from teaching and learning to the many activities that take place beyond the classroom. We warmly welcome students from all sectors of our society, and we value the diversity that enriches our school environment.
I hope you enjoy exploring our website and that it gives you a real sense of what life is like here at Mount Saint Michael — our values, our vision, and our everyday experiences. If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
